There is the units package which replaces nicefrac, alllowing also
nicely typeset units. But no, I don't see any need for manually turning
it off. The require/validate mechanism should be enough.
If units is a superset of nicefrac, perhaps units should be used
instead then, avoiding the problem. Or don't everybody have
"units" yet?
