Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be
the problem. I removed the LyX and LyX-1.4 directories and restarted
LyX, but it still crashed when I tried to open Preferences.

with 1.4.0; these are incompatible and should be deleted from ~/
Library/Application Support/LyX-1.4/[ui,bind].
If that's not the case, try simply moving aside the entire ~/
Library/Application Support/LyX-1.4 directory and restarting LyX.
Does that solve the problem?
