Text strings are more easy to remember anyway. I don't think that numbers 
are needed if you can name a bookmark.

Very good from an implementation point of view (of course nothing for 1.4 
because of file format change). Not so good from a semantic point of 
view: IMHO Bookmarks are not really part of a document, but of the 
session (like cursor positions etc). In particular I would not want to 
share bookmarks together with documents. Imagine for example multiple 
authors working on a book under version control. Everybody has probably 
different bookmarks, and they would interfere with each other.
