What does this mean in practice? Now that I use Xemacs will I see ^M at
each end-of-line because I checkout from windows?

No, xemacs should handle that transparently. Use vim if it cannot do
that ;-)

And why only the qt4 frontend?

Because the other files have it already.

I have cleanup everything already and promised to use Xemacs, wasn't that enough?

No, because it was not enforced. This does not mean that I don't trust you
to be careful, but it is very easy to mix up line endings accidentally
again, and you would not notice. Now you don't need to care at all anymore.

I would to continue working with Unix-style line ending.

You don't need to do that anymore. xemacs should handle both styles, and any
"dumb" editor will simply use windows style.
