I understand your frustration. And of course I'm looking forward to 
post-1.4.0, when some of these patches can (and will) be committed. However, 
I think that the deep freeze (except for real showstoppers that would break a 
release) is a good thing.

My personal opinion is that 1.4.0 should be released as it is now. But it's 
(fortunately) not my call.
