hi guys,

i just wanted you to think about 2 issues before you get 1.4 out of the door:

1. what should be on the standard toolbar?
2. which toolbar should be shown where?

i've been using lyx since 0.12 and have never clicked on the font buttons.
according to john they are broken, and one could argue that fiddling with the
font is somewhat against the latex filosophy (only fine tuning and secondary).

then i think the spellchecker should be there, and export to pdf as well

i understand that this is all a matter of taste but what about the following:

Toolbar "standard" "Standard"
        Layouts
        Item "New document" "buffer-new"
        Item "Open document" "file-open"
        Item "Save document" "buffer-write"
        Item "Print document" "dialog-show print"
Item "Print preview (DVI)" "buffer-view dvi"
        Separator
Item "Export as PDF" "buffer-export pdf"
        Separator
        Item "Check spelling" "dialog-show spellchecker"
Item "Find and replace" "dialog-show findreplace"
        Separator
        Item "Undo" "undo"
        Item "Redo" "redo"
        Item "Cut" "cut"
        Item "Copy" "copy"
        Item "Paste" "paste"
        Separator
        Item "Insert math" "math-mode"
        Item "Insert graphics" "dialog-show-new-inset graphics"
        Item "Insert tabular" "tabular-insert"
        Separator
        Item "Help" "help-open UserGuide"
End

then there is the issue of the toolbar settings.

i would suggest this (in default.ui):

Toolbars
        "standard" "on,top"
        "extra" "off,top"
        "table" "table,top"
        "math" "math,top"
        "minibuffer" "off,bottom"
End

for the following reasons:

the table/math toolbars are new and very useful imho. i think we should show
them when they are useful

the extra toolbar is secondary why not switch it off by default and avoid
clutter?

i don't think that toolbars should be at the bottom so i've put everything at
the top of the window

opinions?

regards, edwin.
