Just to let you know that from the last discussion with JMarc, the idea
was to unify Menu and Toolbar actions in 1.5 or 1.6. But your solution
is a good short-term solution to the user-defined action problem.

I'm pretty sure people are interested in this... wasn't it even requested
and discussed recently?
Anyway, I'm not a hard core developer here, but I believe LyX is in a
feature freeze for the upcoming 1.4. So I'm guessing it'll be difficult to
actually get this patch applied right. So in order to make sure it isn't
forgotten, maybe it'd be a good idea if you submit a feature request in
bugzilla and then attach the patch to that bug entry?
Or, you can make sure someone (it can be you) remembers about it and
makes sure the patch is applied in a few weeks time.

Btw, there might already exist an entry for this feature, but I'm pretty
