I also observed this. In practice the specified suffix does not get attached to the installed binaries. They are installed as lyx, lyxclient and tex2lyx instead of lyx-1.4.0cvs-qt etc. This also happens when not explicitly specifying a suffix, i.e., when merely using --with-version-suffix. The user and system dirs are ok, though. -- Enrico
