So I want the information in the archives for future readers. I
sent a copy to Tomas because I think he uses the Win32 distro.
You are right, I use TeX Live only, because I can once install under
Linux and to serve for Windows users via Samba and for Linux users via nfs.
Dan Luecking is a competent Latex user who commented on
how he fixed a few problems with the Windows, Win32 install.

Three small problems:
1. the intallation program allowed some customization. When I chose
one of these a dialogue window popped up. But every time the mouse
cursor strayed over the main window, it (the main window) rose to the
top, covering the dialogue. This started out confusing (the dialogue
seemed to have disappeared), then became merely annoying when I
figured out what was happening.
He has right, but I hadn't enough time for workaround it. I used focus
for current position of cursor for simply detection of button with
information about scheme for installation.
In TL2006 tlpmgui will less annoying.
2. One can select any of several schemes to install. To be on the safe
side I installed more than I needed and tried to delete things I
didn't need. To my suprise, most of the texmf-dist and texmf-doc trees
were read-only. This was an annoyance, especially for some
configuration files that needed to be edited (modes.mf, for example).
This problem appear if TL is installed from DVD. tlpmgui don't verify
attribute of the files after installation. It will improve in TL2006.
I answered on above problems, because I prepared installer (tlpmgui) for
TL2005. Exactly tlpmgui is GUI for tlpm (TeX Live package manager
written by Paweł Jackowski).
Please send to me ideas and bug reports about installer for TeX Live.
Probably in February or March I will enough time for release improved
tlpmgui for TL2005.
Best regards
