Hello! I have very bad news. LyX 137pre5 crashes badly again on Win95, unlike its predecessor. I am posting screens of crash cries on Win95.
However, this build works fine, apparently, on Win98. Save for a few glitches, due to some basic inability to cope with menu icons, it works pretty much the same as it does on Win2k+. At this point I wonder whether the crashes on Win95 are due to some bug in Microsoft's patch (nothing unheard of...) What makes me uneasy is that I tried again LyX140pre2-cygwin on Win95, and it seems to be happy then. It performs horribly slow while running the GUI, though (but come on! It's Win95!); but seems to do much better than its `native' counterpart as a console filter. I guess that's because it leaves to cygwin1.dll all the trouble of handling paths, and that's a big saver... I'm about to recommend declaring Win95 native support officially dead, and concentrate on Win98+. AFAIK, most vendors have adopted this policy already. For Win95 desperados, you guys can recommend trying the cygwin compiled version. That may be the simplest solution. It should work as long as cygwin runs on top of Win95. It works for me, anyway... Cheers, Luis. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
