Looking at qfont_loader.C, I see that there was font width caching for,
as it says,

"// Starting with version 3.1.0, Qt/X11 does its own caching of
// character width, so it is not necessary to provide ours."

Does this apply for Qt/MacX too? (Bennett uses qt-mac-free-3.3.4) What
if it doesn't? Should we try to re-enable our own caching code here?
