Well now. I have a modern (2 year old) 2.7GHz machine with 512MByte of RAM and although static linking is indeed quicker, it still takes ~45minutes to link LyX 1.4 on this machine. That compares to over an hour when using shared libraries, so there is a benefit. I'm not disputing that things work for you. I'm just saying that your mileage may vary. -- Angus
