To be quite honest I belive we should revert messages.C to the simple
state it was in before this summers meeting.
We then had a system that did not work in all cases. (especially with
utf8 and other norms), but it seems that we almost have the same
problem now...
And it is with this patch getting even more complicated...
I am far from certain that this has been moving in the right
direction.
