This works -- defaulting to /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/MacOS for the binary directory, as it should. However, the INSTALL.MacOSX file should include a note for how to install in a different directory. I've made this modification (along with a few other changes for clarity) in the attached patch.

I think this extra step is unnecessary if we apply the following
patch. Could you check?
