What is important is to check what happens with a normally optimized

Could you try that?

Hi, Jean-Marc. I can confirm that LyX CVS is much, much quicker when
compiled with --disable-stdlib-debug. I can still just about create a
lag between what I type and what appears on the LyX screen when
editting an existing paragraph, but only if I type garbage. If I type
normally, all is fine.

So I'd say that LyX cvs is still clearly slower than LyX 1.3, but it
appears to be usable. Further, real world testing is needed though.

I've just recompiled myself with --disable-stdlib-debug. Things in general (on Mac) seem to be faster *except* typing speed in long documents, which is not noticeably improved. I get the lag Angus describes even with typing normally (and I'm not a terrifically fast typist). I would say it's still unusable on Mac for anything but very short documents -- less than 2 pages.
