Hello, I found the same error message on installation, on different addresses though; and then I tried what you suggest: I installed LyX 1.3.6.1 on some WinXP machine, zipped it up and unzipped it on a Win98 machine, adjusted lyxrc.defaults and the batch files... and it didn't work. Got this message on crash-landing... "LyX.exe is linked to shell32.dll:SHGetFolderPathA which does not exist." I guess the compiler making this executable is tuned up specifically to something like WinNT and above. Right? Luis.
