Hello all,

Forgive me if this isn't entirely within the purview of this list.

I am working on (for Google's Summer of Code) a plugin for Gaim to
allow conversations featuring math notation. For this plugin, I want
to use a handy graphical interface and immediate WYSIWYG
response...much like LyX. I stand little chance of writing such an
interface myself over the summer, so my plan is to "borrow" the math
editor from LyX.

I was hoping to solicit your comments, and ask a couple of questions.
1) Do you think this is feasable?
2) Gaim is GTK. LyX is...many things. On the GUI Independence page on
the website, the math panel in GTK is listed as "in progress". How
much progress has been made? Where can I find out how to compile to
GTK? I might can help whoever's working on this, if it's close to
usable.

I haven't looked into LyX really hard yet (I will this afternoon), but
I wanted to go on and ask some preemptive questions. I hope they're
not too dumb. Thanks,

David Wilson
