I failed to reproduce the crash, and valgrind remains silent. If you
can send me the document, I'll take a look.
Again, I'm away from my test machine for a couple weeks. But here's a
reliable recipe for a crash I've just discovered, which may be related
(though I can't produce a backtrace now):
Create a new document in book class. Change the empty paragraph to a
chapter heading, then change it to a standard paragraph. Then change
the document to article class, and select Edit > Undo. Crash.
