Hello Paul,
my version installs the math fonts automatically. When you deinstall my
version, the fonts are of course also deinstalled.
Angus's official version don't install the fonts, you have to do this by
yourself.

Aha, that would explain it (though it wouldn't explain how I could have
installed Angus's version 16 afterward and not noticed the confused
screen fonts). A caffeine shortage might explain the latter.
