It is not a big task to develop a customized tiny (< 2M) python
distro with cx_freeze or similar tools which can be delivered
with a windows lyx installer and does not infere with a possibly
installed python on the users OS.
About one year ago I sent Ruurd privatly a proposal for a tiny
[msys, perl(msys) and python-2.3(win32)] enviroment which could
be placed i.e. somewhere in the share folder. I never got feedback.
Hi, Carl.
(The perl would have to be a true Windows version rather than msys.)
Truly, I don't know the best way to proceed with this, but my gut feeling
is that we're trying to address a problem that isn't really there.
I really don't see why such a mini-dist would be an advantage. What will
happen is what has happened with Ruurd's equivalent packaging of python. It
fails to work as people add more functionality to the scripts. Moreover, it
will become "one more thing" to maintain.
A users requirement for an full installation of a spezific windows
python version is not necessary and desirable in my opinion.
We require only that Python is at version 1.5 or greater.
