Makes sense, although whether distributors package it like that is up to

Yes.  If one ever wants to refer to it it will still be findable.  Right
now it's just confusing to anyone who is new to the repository.

Indeed :-)
I think that Michael was saying that the gtk frontend was causing extra
work for translators.  If that is causing a problem, I would accept
leaving the gtk frontend untranslated until it reaches a state of
usability.

I would agree with this: getting rid of the GUI independent stuff would
be a lot of work, for no massive gain.  Since it's there, it might as
well stay to make LyX agile in the future as deployed desktop
environments come and go.
