Yes.

Did I ever sqy it was supposed to work? All I wanted is to be able to
typeset files that are inside C:\Program Files\LyX\, for example.

The goal was not to allow everybody to use stupid file names just
because it is fun.

Actually, unless you can convince me that it is needed, I am not sure
that I want such a change in 1.3.X...
