He means character styles. Have a look at the layout files for 1.4.0cvs. These are implemented as insets, but currently not (really) used except on the DocBook side. We should have logical styles like Noun and Emphasized, instead of character attributes. They will not be physically dropped, but the UI will guide the user to use logical styles. At least that's how I remember what came out of the discussion back then. - Martin
