I must admit that I only read the script after my first post and only tried it out now. I also tried my proposal. The disadvantage of my proposal is that it can't delete TeX artefacts which are already present in the BibTeX database; i didn't realize that before. So maybe one should do it your way. But Kayvan wanted an ASCII file, not a LyX file. So what about this: * use the authentic *.aux file * use your script to generate a LyX file * use LyX to generate ASCII from this file. Alternatively we could change the plaintext output for the bibtex inset to recurse into the generated LyX file. Hey, this would also work for DocBook! We could also produce the authentic *.aux file from LyX itself instead of using LaTeX. Your script needs some polishing, though. I tried it with btxdoc.bib from the BibTeX documentation and it produced an empty file. Ciao /Andreas
