I think we should change this text because we no longer require an X server on Windows.
Yes "we" do. LyX/Win isn't ours, it's Ruurd's. No version of LyX, either released or built direct from CVS will compile out of the box on Windows. Sure that is about to change, but it hasn't changed yet.
