Unfortunately only xforms users can do that from the GUI, qt users need to edit the .lyx file by hand :-(
Then the QT-Frontend shouldn't offer defskips.
Qt offers it. Please see my previous email. IMHO the feature is reasonable the way it is implemented. If you would like LyX to behave differently, we would have to change the implementation first and fix the documentation afterwards.
