The second one sounds cleaner.

What about being a bit more generous from the beginning and not only
rebreaking paragraphs on screen, but paragraphs touching the range  up
to one screen height above and one below. Wouldn't that solve the
problem, too?

In any case, you should start to consider merging your branch back to
HEAD....
