Indeed. Note that I had to try it out to make sure that tabulars
behave like that.

In the case of branches, common sense tell me that the content of the
branch has a font which is relative to the current paragraph. This is
not latex-related, BTW.

For notes insets, I guess we can choose freely what we prefer.
