And without copying and unique names there are problems with files
dir1/fig1.eps and dir2/fig2.eps and some more problems which aare covered in
the old discussions

There might be an advantage if you are tight on disk space and have _a lot_
of _huge_ graphics included, but the code is simpler without that special
casing.

Yes. But this is something that only very few programs support. Do you want
to create a .eps mover?
