minsys comes with vim. Not ideal for this emacs-junky, but bearable.

This is truly trivial. I know nothing, nothing, nothing about Windows and I
managed to install D:\MinGW and D:\MinSYS using the installers that come
with each. Took about 5 mins max. The only difficulty was getting Boost's
bjam to work properly which required simply that bjam.exe be placed at
D:\MinGW\bin\bjam.exe rather than any place else.

Don't you find it amazing that competent programmers are baffled by Windows
and its idiosyncrasies? I guess that unix has coloured our judgement.
