I have had to use Word in the past.  The first thing I do is turn off
flyspell and flygrammar.

The second thing I do is create ... by force, if necessary ... a set
of constant-format styles for sectioning, enumerated lists, itemized
lists, etc.

The only thing I miss in LyX is dynamic-abbreviation-expansion.  But,
that's an Emacs feature;  Word only has a crude version thereof.
