While recently writing a quote-in-a-quote, I went to change my
quotation style from double-quotes to single quotes. To my horror,
the old, venerable "Quotes Layout" dialog was gone, replaced by a
document-wide setting.
This is a Misfeature in most European languages.
In English, German, and (I think) French, it is standard style to
switch from double-quotes to single-quotes when you have a
quote-in-a-quote. For example:
My mother once told me, ``If a stranger tells you, `Come with me
and I will give you candy,' run home right away!''
Quoting phrases within a sentence is not uncommon. If you're quoting
someone else, you'll likely run into a quote-in-a-quote. Thanks to
somebody's new "Feature," LyX can no longer handle this situation.
This is a problem.
