With which version of gcc/binutils and on which platforms does this work?
It works definitely with gcc 3.3.1 and binutils 2.14.90.0.5 on SuSE 9.0.
It also worked with gcc 3.2.2 on SuSE 8.1.
IIRC there was a problem with gcc 3.3.0 on SuSE 8.2 but this compiler version was buggy anyway.
I did not ask to make -gstabs the default debug option. But for people who have to build the lyx binary many, many times, it can be a big relief.
