My experience was a bit different:

- sending mail directly to the list required a confirmation message although
I was subscribed with that address
- although the message told me that my original mail will get through, it
never appeared on the list
- posting via gmane works fine even with addresses that are not subscribed
to the list after confirming the first message to gmane.

This is consistent with Robs experience if his message did not appear on the
list at all and was not only missing on gmane.

So I believe that there is a problem with the lyx list and not with gmane.

True. This should either be fixed or at least documented on the website.
