I have a request that could perhaps be a future feature of LyX concerning the 
references.
When the user inserts a label in a document, LyX automatically adds a prefix 
(for example "cha:" for a chapter). This means that there exists a sort of 
hierarchy between the labels. When you have a big document with many labels, 
it could be interesting to present the list of the references during a 
insertion not as a "flat list", but as a tree. In fact, when there are a lot 
of references, it would be easier to manipulate them.
Another idea (but I don't know if anyone else find it usefull) would be that, 
when you insert a reference, the dialog box put the user not at the top of 
the list (=the first reference of the document), but to the closest reference 
to the current position in the document.
