The whole idea of patenting software and business idea is crap.
[Patents as such are fine as long as they cover _real inventions_]

Think of patenting 'highlighting words by showing them in a different
colour on screen in a text processor' [1].

What would we do? Remove LColor?

Only as long as the patent holders behave. 

Until recently I was inclined to think that they would as it does not
make much business sense to shut up OSS unless you are MicroSoft, so
nobody would wield software patents against OSS.  But SCO managesd to
prove the contrary...

And then there's of course this Europe vs US thingy. As almost
everything is already patented 'worldwide' in the US, the direction of
the cash flow for patent royalties is clear...

I have no problems to support any action against software patents. 
If that means I shut down my web site for a day I'd do that.
