Doesn't explain it either. I have started up LyX over a 56k phone line and it takes 4-5 minutes "only". Plus one minute for the splash screen :-( BTW this is much more than earlier LyX versions. And the funny thing is that traffic is going *from* my home computer ("X server") *to* the one running LyX ("client") all the time at about 5k. Compression doesn't help, changing the cipher to blowfish doesn't help... this is X tunnelled over ssh 1.2 (yes, I know I should upgrade) Martin
