Here is the result of my probings. The only difference that I can ascertain 
between the two logs on baywatch (for mails posted using kmail's SMTP and 
sendmail respectively) is the <from> address.

kmail SMTP
        from=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
sendmail
        from=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

In answer to Lars' question, 
"Are you using MASQUERADE_AS? Do you masquerade the envelope as well?"

I do not know yet ;-)
