Sigh... I must be tired today.. I guess the question should have been why 
it's '.C' instead of '.cpp', '.cp', '.cxx', '.cc' or '.c++', i.e. one of 
the extensions that I recognize. Anyway, now that I know '.C' is also 
used for C++ it makes more sense.
