AMS math symbols wrong in qt frontend

OK, this a new Red Hat 8.0 install. So trying to insert an AMS symbol
in math should give me ERT, right ?

Unfortunately, I just get random symbols instead (like GBP pound sign,
'N', etc.). This is quite bad.

Ideas on why ?
