You are using german keybord, aren't you?
I have US-Keyboard here, using the Mode_switch to generate the apropriate dead key.
This shall then be the modifier for the following ascii-key.
This are the appropriate xmodmap values for "umlaut"
...
keycode 0x2F = semicolon colon dead_diaeresis
keycode 0x71 = Mode_switch Alt_R
clear Mod1
clear Mod4
add Mod1 = Alt_L Meta_R
add Mod4 = Meta_L Mode_switch
...
Without the patch, I am not able insert e.g. "ä" into the lyx-text-window.
But, in contrast to this, the search dialog has no problems. (See attached)
