It's like the the Path from support/path.[Ch] And changing temporarily single members it is _much_ faster than making full copies of the drawing/metrics info structures... And that's essential as this is the critical path. In most cases using them is really straight-forward, there are just a few places like that were it has to be done in both branches of an 'if'...
