Hi,
        let us decide that LyX started at 1.0.0 and all the previous versions are
prehistoric. :-)

        Using the User Guide an an historichal archive, I can say this:

        From 1.0.0 to until 1.1.4 the file format stood at 2.15, with some small
changes in between, such as \tableofcontents{} getting the {} pair or the
graphical options taking float values (not just integer).

        The 1.1.5 series has a fileformat of 2.16 the major change being the
\protected_separator -> \SpecialChar ~ (are there any other cases?).

        After 2.16 we had 2.17 that was just an internal version where the tables
file format changed to one. Although there isn't any stable version that
outputs such format, some of the documents come with it, so you should better
support it.

        In our quest 218 is the next to know the glory, with it the tables internal
format goes to 2 (more xmlish if I may say so :-).

        Finally the last king is 220 for 1.2.x. The changes are related with
minipages and old floats.

        So our formats are:
                * 2.15
                * 2.16
                * 2.17
                *  218
                *  220

        So, please, dear LyX historian is there any detail that I am missing, or any
better records to research other than our beloved User Guide.
