Did you ever answer Jean-Marcs question about changeExtension? (i.e.
Is it really needed?)
As to the earlier times when you have posted parts of this patch...
there has been comments, questions and request that never got
answered (and still aren't), or you posted that patch at a time when
it could never be committed.
