It's not the 1.2.0 document at all. My LyX (1.3.0 CVS) crashes upon entering math environment (i.e. clicking on the Math-ed tool button). Something is very wrong here at my end, apparently. I'll investigate further. It could be related to having too high version numbers of the auto* tools. Rob.
