CVS as of today (May 21st).

I'm NOT talking about the updates via the View menus.

What I'm talking about is the following process:

when I enter a Grace file in the Graphics dialog, LyX may
internally need xpm and eps versions of this file:

  myFile.agr --(convert)--> <myFile.???> --(convert)--> myFile.xpm

  myFile.agr --(convert)--> myFile.eps

The eps and xpm files are stored in the LyX temp directory.

I open my document in LyX with the myFile.agr graphics and everything
works fine.

BUT: if I modify the myFile.agr in Grace, LyX doesn't seem to notice
that and keeps using the older eps and xpm files. I can inconveniently
remedy this by forcing LyX to reload the file (load another one and
then reload the previous one again). However, the Postscript Viewer
still seems to use the old eps version of the file.

So once again: it's not the Viewer that's causing trouble here, it's the
management of the graphics files and the decision making as of when to
update them. That may need some date/time checking before reusing
previously generated versions.

Does this explanation make sense?

My example is about Grace files, but the update problem is general, I assume.

Regards,
Rob.
