This indeed works fine. My confusion was that in lyx-1.1.6 when adding a figure float a default caption was added to the float and all I had to do was inser->label. But in lyx-1.2.0-pre4 no such default caption is added and I have to set the text (below) a figure to a caption first. So in lyx-1.2.0-pre4 I have to do make->caption; insert->label regards, Kees
