I don't believe you! I have some libraries in a dir where ldd can find them
ld.so.conf is set appropriately and ldconfig was run, but I still have to
give the -L/dir/to/my/library to the linker so that they are found in the
linking stage. Maybe this was changed in some linkers (newers one?), but
this is definitvely not "generally" true.
