Then if we really must have a file in cvs it should be lyx.pot. But then we'd want it continuously updated like POTFILES.in is now. (This should be the case already although it doesn't work. All the necessary conditions seem to be there though) The problem you refer to those is orthogonal to the question of POTFILES.in: Is there a better way of getting updated translations? Can translators be expected to do a bit extra -- like: cvs co lyx-devel ./autogen.sh ./configure cd po make ./lyx.pot If they're prepared to be translators should we have some minimum expectations like the above? Any translator should be able to checkout a copy of CVS anytime they like and do the above. However, it usually only makes sense to do so around release time -- hence the lyx.pot regeneration as a part of `make dist`. So maybe we should ask whether any translation is better than no translation? Or at least if a recent translation is better than forcing translators to work to our schedule?
