As much as I know it should process mathed via latex and then include the
images, but I don't really know. For what I use it (and I did the HTML
pages of the whole LyX documentation if you remember this) latex2html is
enough. The only problem I have is the one Herbert also has and it is with
html urls not translated in the right manner.
